The variety of wildlife never ceases to amaze visitors to Mundui. Although the buffalo are seasonal in that they rely on the green grass when it is plentiful here there is a herd of 21 - bulls, cows and half grown calves to be seen every evening grazing peacefully. Providing the wind is in the right direction, you can get very close to them on foot and just sit and enjoy watching them.
A fortnight ago the camels were disturbed during the night by a full grown male lion which has been seen in the wilder areas around Naivasha during last year. He has, so far, eaten one steer and otherwise hunts only wildlife. Some months ago his companion, also male, was found drowned in the lake after an apparent effort to attach a hippo in the water!
There are currently about three hundred Greater Flamingo feeding in the shallow waters of Oloidien a few hundred yards below the house and as always hippo feature large in our lives eating the grass on the lawn and only moving away when they are chased by the dogs.
