| IN FOR THE KILL IN AMBOSELI
News from Ol Kanjau, Amboseli
Judy Rainy of Ol Kanjau with guests was driving through Amboseli recently and came across what looked like a full zebra flat on the ground, only to get closer they discovered a lion had killed it and eaten it inside-out, getting closer still, the male lion who owned the carcass, rushed out of the bush he was hiding in and effortlessly dragged the zebra away as if it were a rag doll.
Judy has also had the privilege of seeing for the second time civet cat in Amboseli, a very rare sighting for these parts.
Judy reports a new addition to her family, Siritae, a grey dyker, only five months old, rescued as an infant and doing well. Siritae is a very fussy eater and will only dine on Green Apples from South Africa and mushrooms. Otherwise, they find her an affectionate dear (deer), who enjoys human company very much. Jessica, Judy's daughter has done all the nursing to bring Siritae back to good health.
The elephant movement in Amboseli is positive, with there being a steady 300 strong in the park, migrating only to feed, otherwise, groups of sometimes 100 to 150 have been seen. Judy has been able to drive up quite close to a few smaller groups in the vehicle, and found the elephant haven't minded the landrover at all - good photo opportunities.
All the best from Judy and Mike Rainy at Ol Kanjau.
