Luxuriously appointed Borana Lodge, kenya.Borana Ranch lies at the foot of Mount Kenya , just sixteen miles from the equator and 6,500 feet above sea level. Adjacent to Lewa Wildlife Conservancy, its unique geographical situation makes the 35,000-acre ranch a haven for a wide diversity of wildlife. The ranch is home to fifty indigenous tree families and over 300 species of bird life, supplemented throughout the year by a multitude of migratory visitors.

Borana Lodge is set on the edge of the Samangua Valley with panoramic views of Mount Kenya , the Borana plains and the Ngare Ndare forest.

The cottage bedroom at Borana Lodge.Borana and its environs constitute one of the most beautiful parts of Kenya . In one day guests can enjoy the dry lowlands at the foot of the escarpment, the rolling plains at the top and the cool, snow-capped magnificence of Mt Kenya .

Accommodation is in six cottages, two with double beds, and four with queen size beds. All with open fireplace, bathrooms en suite and private veranda.

Bimbi and Fuzz Dyer are your hosts. Family owned and run, Borana offer an insight into the workings of the ranch including all the projects, which involve the neighbouring communities.

Borana Lodge has a swimming pool with a spectacular view.

Activities:

  • Game drives in the company of rangers and trackers with encyclopaedic knowledge of the area and the wide diversity of flora and fauna.
  • Game walks with an experienced guide.
  • Night game drives – after dinner enjoy the nocturnal birds and animals.
  • Horse rides, exploring the ranch on horseback
  • Bush meals – farm fresh meals prepared where and when you want them.
  • A horizon swimming pool with superb views over the valley.

Optional extras:

  • Trips to Lewa Wildlife Conservancy home to black and white rhino, with a picnic breakfast or lunch.
  • Dance with the Maasai.
  • Professionally guided horse riding treks, walking safaris or mountain bike expeditions from Borana to two community owned eco-friendly exclusive-use lodges and a fly-camp in the Seiku Valley .
  • Fly-fishing on Mt. Kenya .
